Adopting additive manufacturing (AM) often means reconsidering the materials that a manufacturer is comfortable with. Manufacturers can use the pivot to AM as an opportunity to investigate new material options that may be more sustainable than conventional feedstock, such as plastic filaments made from plants or metal powders made from recycled scrap. The pivot also provides other material-related opportunities such as more frugal material usage, lighter parts and simplified production.
